Skoda Octavia

The car manufacturer Skoda has produced a model of car called the Octavia.

Skoda AutomobilesThe Skoda Auto car group is part of the car manufacturers, Volkswagen. The Octavia has been in production since 1996 and is still being produced into the present time. It falls into the category of a small family car. The Octavia has an especially long boot which can give the impression that the car is of saloon type. However, it is a 5 door car available in either hatchback or estate styles.

The 'first generation' version of the Skoda Octavia was built in 1996 and its chassis was made to the same specification as the VW Golf and the Seat Leon. It is one of the largest 'small family cars' currently on the market and this is due to its very large boot which give the rear of the car quite an overhang. This car was first available for purchase in 1998 and it proved very successful with the UK consumer who appreciated the size, value and reliability of the car. Though popular, it did not do quite as well as its counterparts the Ford Mondeo or the Vauxhall Vectra. This first generation Octavia had a range of engine sizes available from 1.4 through to 2.0 litre.

The second generation Octavia was first manufactured in 2004 and continues to the present day. It has more legroom in the rear of the car, which had proved to be a weak point in the first generation of the car, as well as more clearance from the ground at the front and back of the car to allow for kerbs and the like. In India, the second generation of the Octavia is called the Laura to help consumers differentiate between the two better. This second version of the Octavia also had a different range of engines available to the first.

A off-road version of the Octavia was announced in the latter part of 2006 and this model is to be called the Octavia Scout. It will only be available in an estate style however.
